CiM Creation is Messy 104

Creation is Messy was founded in 2006 with the mission to build a line of 104 compatible colours to expand your lampworking palette. We are a Seattle based company producing glass lampworking rods in China. Currently we produce Messy Colour™ glass colour products. We have been involved in the glass industry for ten years in various capacities.

Diaphanous Misty (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

An ivory misty opal with a peach undertone.

Portal (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

A very subtle and delicate misty opal white.

Diaphanous Milky (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

An ivory milky opal with a peach undertone.

Haylong Bay (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

A milky cobalt blue moonstone.

Kryptonite (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

"This is a wonderful Seafoam colour - and a colour that has not really been available in the 104 palette - I usually have to go to Bullseye to get this colour - so I am totally pleased to see this one.   It looks translucent in the rod, and works up to be still translucent, but not misty or opal. More like an oily or alabaster glass." Read more at DragonJools blog. – Dwyn Tomlinson

Candlelight (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

"I had an unusual reaction to Candlelight. On the last beads I made, I kept striking the colour and got a beautiful dark orange amber red - absolutely stunning. The beads were like a muddy dark amber going in the kiln." – Juliette Mullett

Goji (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

A goji berry orange-red.

Goddess (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

"Goddess is fine to work with and the only issue I had with it was some slight fizzy scumming. At first I thought it was devitrification but when I inspected the first bead I made with it, after annealing, I realised it was probably just a case of what I’m calling ‘Blue Fussiness’. Some blue glasses like to be kept hot [think Effetre transparent Dark Aqua 036, or CiM Leaky Pen] and they don’t appreciate the temperature fluctuations that go alongside sculpting. My constant faffing about upset the glass and it fizzed, creating patches of white scummy-looking bits. I had a second attempt and made a conscious decision to constantly keep the bead as warm as I could and I had a much better result, so yeah, classic Blue Fussiness. You can just see a little bit of the white microbubbling in the photo, on the right hand side of the bead in the midsection."

Swan (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

"The small Swan bead was tiny just so I could try etching, and the spinner beads are still quite small [12mm]. You see that they both have yellow tinges. They weren't over worked, quite quick to make, but I did marver them so they did have some heating and cooling. I did find later that if worked cooler and with a slight oxidising flame that it was better. When photographed, it does pick up some yellow that the eye doesn't see, so to some extent the yellow will still be there but nowhere near as visible!" – Trudi Doherty

Unicorn (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

"Peony over Unicorn and pressed for petals. Gives it an even more ethereal look. The pink is a lovely petal color and I wanted to extend the pink and wasn't sure if the Unicorn would act more like a white or a transparent. Needless to say, it was right in the middle. I applied the pink over the top of it and that allowed me to show the translucency while retaining the gorgeous pink. I can see using Unicorn not only alone, but also underneath colors that I want to diffuse a little bit and let more light shine through." – Marcy Lamberson

Maple (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

A transparent warm golden brown.

London Fog (Ltd Run) 1/4 Kilo

"This is London Fog and Unicorn. Variants of Cirrus, these two really show off CiM’s misty opals and translucent. The best news is they stay translucent through sculpting, reheating and annealing. Brilliant! Also worth noting is that they were put in annealing bubbles and then batch annealed. No cracking, didn’t need to baby them through the sculpting process. None of the beads I made cracked. Not even when I couldn’t decide which pink I wanted to use for the ears and nose." – Lori Peterson
