Caroline says, I am interested in figurative lamp work glass sculpture and have been learning and practising for a little over 7 years, with trips to both Murano and Lauscha to learn and discover more about these traditions. I live near Southend in Essex and regularly have visitors who recall watching lamp workers on the pier or along the Seafront in the 50's and 60's. I enjoy creating expressive figures, often dancers and more recently have worked on several themed windows as seasonal 'entertainment' for visitors to the Craft Village where my studio is based. This summer, the response of children and their families to my window full of circus characters has given me great pleasure.
I have a lifelong passion for sculpture in all its forms, having originally studied Fine Art. For many years I chose to work without colour, with paper and stone before discovering the joys of working with glass. Whilst much practice is needed, I believe that the techniques, once learned, really can open up the colourful world of your imagination.
